Restaurant 5.0 & The Food Curator

The first Food Curator in the world, taste artist Jeffrey Kuckelkorn is a member of the SCHUNCK* Project Bureau, along with the Architecture, Visual Arts, Music and Literature curators. In consultation with his cultural colleagues, the Food Curator carries out the culinary policy of Schunck’s Restaurant 5.0 in an artistic way. He achieves this by on the one hand linking up with the SCHUNCK* cultural programme, with the focal points Modernity and Urban Culture, and on the other by developing and presenting his own themes and culinary concepts on the cutting edge between art and food.

An important thread running through this is the emphasis on multicultural aspects and cultural diversity: bringing to - gether cultures, tastes, people, culinary customs etc. and letting people experience them. Flavours, aromas and colours are assembled, with passion and an open attitude to the world, in international dishes and menus whose unique form and composition have never before been seen on a menu.

Jeffrey Kuckelkorn draws his inspiration from his travels across countries and continents, everyday life and the artistic playground that is SCHUNCK*: the exhibition of Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer’s body of work, the paintings in the collection of modern and contemporary art in the schunck Collectors House, the literary themes of the annual national Book Week, a performance by cult musician Kim Gordon. These themes can give rise to a wide range of taste experiments and culinary adventures, for example ‘Women at the Stove’ during International Women’s Day, or ‘Aad de Haas, untitled ‘bread’ to be served with a meal, and a Cappuschunck or Siberian Rose Tea to round it off. And all this with the most incredible view of Heerlen in the background!
